Things I never knew about eating south Indian thali :)

I had this tasty yet intimidating experience of eating south indian thali yesterday.
After a few seconds of the arrival of thali, I asked the waiter to serve curd (because I generally mix curd with rice and daal/curry and then eat). Waiter looked at me like I am an alien, and said "Madam curd ? Now???". I said 'yes', then he said sth (cursed) in telugu and while serving the curd, he kept on saying "this is how maharashtrians eat, they mix things which are not supposed to be(rule1), they dnt follow order (rule2) ...blah blah". And my friend( who is a gult) just added fuel to the fire, he ordered sambar, and mixed it with daal to accompany rice (rule3 : sambar is supposed to be eaten with rice alone) . Waiter/owner was aware that he is a gult and that led to exchange of couple of sentences in their native language and the rest was history! They asked him to finish the food fast saying other customers are waiting for the table,  and that was the moment we decided not to visit the restaurant again :P

Well, for those like me who don't know there is an order to the progression of thali eating, it goes like this :
  • Begin by eating the roti or directly rice with vegetables (in both curries and dry form) on the plate. You can also eat the vegetables throughout as an accompaniment to the rice and sauce courses to follow.
  • The sambar is next to be eaten (it is added to a portion of rice as you desire).
  • The rasam, mixed with rice, is always eaten last of the sauces. It imparts a tomatoey and peppery palate.
  • Curd (yoghurt) mixed with rice is always eaten last, to cool your palate and aid with digestion.
  • Mmmmmmm! Mmmmmm!(throughout the course), eat lots of rice and grab this very soupy/liquidy rice with fingers(not possible? yes, so use your palm). Bring it on!

Meaningless Life!

Life fundamentally has no meaning...no pupose...no goal. Human beings do claim to make goals and acheive it, but then what about other species? why do we talk about things in our own periphery only.  I have had no goals in life...so what? am I not living the way one should? The fact is.... everyone and everything is dispensable, be it you, your goals, your gods etc...and when one is not around, life moves on due to the very nature of it.

Tablets tablets tablets!

I am a bit surprised by the rise in tablets sale in India. Yesterday, a senior level person in my company just asked me ..."which is better.. Samsung Galaxy tab or IPad? what is the price difference? and I seriously had no idea until that moment :P
Rain of tablets make me curious to know the reasons of it, after all tablets are just an extension of touch phones. At best u can read excels, PowerPoint’s etc, you can also present them. But working on them, creating them is a big hassle. They don’t even have “MS Office” for God’s sake. There is no windows based tab and no MS Office that runs on iOS or Android. http://www.macintouch.com/reviews/ipad/iwork.html check Microsoft Office Compatibility section. You can import MS Office formats at best. Export also doesn't happen in MS Office format. You have to work with iWork formats and it su*ks. MS should come with it’s product for all operating systems… but that has been against the policy of Microsoft, even for PCs. With great delay and when it became inevitable, it made MS Office for Mac OS. Now again the same inevitable situation is coming in mobile operating systems. Windows mobile is a flop OS and nobody wants it. MS Office for mobile does not exist on non-windows operating systems on mobile. I don’t know what Microsoft is up to.

World has changed so much in last 12 months. Almost every leading brand in the technology segment has a tablet out in the market. And tablets are definitely good for browsing.
